Eugene Eye Clinic is proud to offer a revolutionary replacement lens option for cataract patients: the RxSight Light Adjustable Lens™ (LAL). This is the first and only adjustable intraocular lens (IOL) that can be customized after cataract surgery.
By slightly altering the shape and power of your new lens in the weeks after your surgery, our doctors can help you achieve superior vision outcomes for your unique lifestyle. The initial cataract surgery process (lens removal and replacement lens implantation) is the same as our typical cataract surgery process.
How the Light Adjustable Lens Works
The LAL is made of a special photosensitive material that responds to ultraviolet (UV) light. After your eye has healed from cataract surgery, Dr. Jason P. Gross can optimize your vision results (if necessary) using a series of 2-4 non-invasive, painless light treatments over 2-4 weeks. You have the unique ability to “test drive” your vision during this timeframe to get it just right. When you have reached your vision goals, a two final light treatments are used to lock in the results.
UV Protective Glasses are Mandatory During Treatment
Exposure to indoor and outdoor sources of UV light can cause uncontrolled changes to the LAL until all light treatments are completed. You must wear special UV protective glasses provided during all waking hours (from the time of lens implantation until 24 hours after the final lock-in light treatment is completed).
The clear pair of protective glasses must be worn indoors and the tinted pair must be worn in all bright sunlight conditions. The glasses may be removed when sleeping and may be temporarily removed when showering, washing the face or applying eye drops as long as you are not exposed to direct sunlight.
